On ne manque pas de s\u2019y plonger sans fin avant de s\u2019embarquer pour une ville inconnue, d\u2019y inventer des itin\u00e9raires, de s&rsquo;impr\u00e9gner de sa topographie \u2014 carrefours, grands axes et recoins secrets \u2014 en se ber\u00e7ant de l\u2019illusion qu\u2019on d\u00e9barquera <em>en terrain connu<\/em>, de se cr\u00e9er des rep\u00e8res que la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 ne manquera pas de d\u00e9mentir. Les plans sont la m\u00e9moire des voyages pass\u00e9s. On y retrouve au bout des doigts le souvenir de ses parcours en tout sens. Bref, on a le f\u00e9tichisme des plans.<br \/>\nImpossible alors de ne pas acqu\u00e9rir cet atlas de poche de Londres (non dat\u00e9), qui gisait dans une caisse au milieu des vieilles assiettes. Les listes en sont merveilleusement obsol\u00e8tes, rappel d\u2019un temps o\u00f9 l\u2019on voyageait autrement. Statistiques, suggestions de visites, d\u2019h\u00f4tels et de restaurants, th\u00e9\u00e2tres, ambassades, compagnies de fret, <em>parking places for motor cars<\/em> (denr\u00e9e si rare qu\u2019il faut la signaler : on en d\u00e9nombre trente-huit), principaux clubs (c\u2019est Londres), plans de Westminster, de Saint-Paul, de la tour de Londres et du r\u00e9seau ferroviaire (dont on pr\u00e9cise fi\u00e8rement qu\u2019il est \u00e9lectrifi\u00e9) : l\u2019\u00e9diteur a pens\u00e9 \u00e0 tout.
